MACBETH

Performance Director

Almost Famous Theatre Company 2025/26

My Directorial Debut of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth premiered at the New Adelphi Theatre in Salford.

Working with co-director Toby Shepherd and production manager Archie Reeves, the creative objective was to convey the narrative's darkness through a cohesive vision in costume design, scenography, and the performers'  stage presence.

The ensemble was a collection of students from the University of Salford, representing a high calibre of talent from across the creative arts.

Our mission was to demonstrate that professional theatre remains accessible to all.  We engaged performers from diverse academic backgrounds and many levels of experience.

While Macbeth is known for its tragic themes, it fundamentally has an emphasis on human connection and loyalty, as shown through the Thanes and their families.

Our production deliberately emphasised these dynamics to deepen the audience's engagement. By creating an inclusive environment, our creative and production teams created a professional environment and lasting friendships that define the success of this project.

The Cast
The Vision

The technical innovation behind this project was a major aspect of the production! Right from the start, we were in constant collaboration with the theatre team to push every boundary to achieve the full potential of the New Adelphi Theatre.
We drew inspiration from Joel Coen's The Tragedy of Macbeth, creating a striking minimalistic world fueled by a bold black, white, and grey palette with shocks of red! Our lighting design was filled with dramatic shadows, while gauze projections and haunting voice-overs brought the supernatural to life in a way that was truly amazing.
We were determined to keep the audience on the edge of their seats! By performing scenes into the crowd for an immersive experience, we created unforgettable moments, especially when Banquo's ghost appeared right in the audience. It was theatrical magic.
